The artist has earned international recognition for her coffee powder paintings while extending her work into education, community engagement and creative learning.
MUMBAI: Artist Prina Rishab Halwai has been honoured with the Bharat Shreshtha Ratna Sanman 2026 at the India Republic Times – Leadership Conclave Mumbai 2026, recognising her contribution to artistic innovation, creative learning and community engagement. Her journey is distinguished by her work in coffee powder painting, a non-traditional artistic medium through which she has developed a collection of detailed artworks.
Prina gained wider recognition in February 2021 when the Asia Book of Records, India Book of Records and International Book of Records recognised her for creating the maximum number of detailed paintings using coffee powder. In March 2021, the Asia Book of Records conferred upon her the title of “Grand Master” after verifying a collection of 23 original artworks completed across 23 mount boards.
Pioneering Coffee Powder Art
Prina’s artistic practice explores the creative possibilities of coffee powder as a medium. By using its natural colour and texture, she has developed detailed paintings that demonstrate an alternative approach to visual expression.
Her record-setting collection brought attention to the possibilities of using unconventional materials in fine art. The recognition from multiple record organisations in 2021 marked an important milestone in her artistic journey and established her work within a wider conversation about experimentation and innovation in art.
Her work has also received media coverage, including a feature in Pune Times Mirror, bringing further attention to her creative practice.
Bringing Art into Educational Environments
Prina’s work extends beyond creating individual artworks. In September 2025, she conducted an interactive coffee painting workshop for educators at Mainadevi Bajaj International School in Mumbai.
The workshop introduced teachers to a non-conventional artistic medium and explored how creative activities can be incorporated into educational settings. Such initiatives offer opportunities for educators to experience new forms of artistic expression and consider their application in learning environments.
Her engagement with educational communities reflects an interest in sharing artistic knowledge and encouraging others to explore creative techniques.
Recognition for Art and Community Engagement
Prina’s achievements have also been recognised through awards acknowledging her work and broader contributions. She received the APT Women Award in March 2022 and the Maa Award from the Taare Zameen Par Organization.
Alongside her artistic practice, she is involved in oracle card reading and community organisation. These interests form part of her wider engagement with people and community activities.
Her professional journey brings together creative experimentation, knowledge-sharing and participation in initiatives beyond her studio work.
Family Support and Personal Encouragement
Prina acknowledges the support of her husband, Rishab Halwai, throughout her journey. She also credits her close friend Mecir, whose companionship over two decades has provided a source of encouragement through different milestones.
Family and personal relationships have formed an important part of her experience, supporting her as she continues to pursue artistic and community-oriented activities.
Nurturing the Next Generation
Prina’s interest in multidisciplinary learning is also reflected in her family life. She is the mother of Rudhran Rishab Halwai, an eight-year-old achiever recognised for accomplishments across areas including yoga, music, martial arts and cognitive challenges.
Her encouragement of varied interests within the family reflects the importance of curiosity, practice and continued learning. Rudhran’s pursuits across different disciplines provide another dimension to the family’s engagement with creative and skill-based development.
Recognition of a Continuing Artistic Journey
The Bharat Shreshtha Ratna Sanman 2026 recognises Prina Rishab Halwai’s journey in artistic innovation, educational engagement and community participation. From her record-setting coffee powder paintings to her workshop for educators, her work demonstrates a commitment to exploring creative possibilities and sharing them with others.
Her journey highlights how experimentation with artistic materials can lead to distinctive forms of expression while creating opportunities for learning and engagement beyond individual artistic practice.
